Farewell to the 20th Chairman & Inauguration of the 21st Chairman

Kwang-hee Hong, the new chairman of KOIMA, stresses‘Calm and Sophisticated Export & Aggressive and Strategic Import’ The KOIMA held a farewell ceremony for its 20th chairman, as well as for the inauguration of its 21st chairman on March 15 in the Grand Ballroom, Chosun Hotel, Seoul. For the ceremony foreign ambassadors from 39 countries were invited including from the Russian Federation, commercial counsellors from 50 countries, ex-chairmen and their board members, as well as more than 250, including Korea’s former deputy prime minister and heads of ministries. Chairman Myoung-jin Shin presented plaques of contribution to his administration executives, followed by a farewell speech on his reflections over his three year term in the office. He then passed the flag of the Association to the new Chairman Kwang-hee Hong, who presented a Certificate of Merit to his predecessor for his hard work for the Association over the past three years. Chairman Hong, in his inauguration speech, promised to create a more future-oriented KOIMA in an environment where all the members can come together in harmony, by recruiting young CEOs as the new drivers of trade, responding proactively to the changing global trade environment, strengthening the role of KOIMA’s opinions as solutions for trade issues, boosting synergy by close coordination with other relevant organizations, and enhancing KOIMA’s contribution in economy. In particular, he stressed that‘calm and sophisticated export, aggressive and strategic import’ would help smooth things over during the era of stronger protectionism and trade conflicts. H.E. Sylvester Kouassi Bile, ambassador of Cote d’Ivoire to Korea, delivered a congratulatory speech as the representative of the diplomatic corps, saying that KOIMA has proven itself as one of the core organizations in promoting trade relations with Korea by establishing friendly and cooperative relationship with foreign embassies in the country, and expressed his confidence in Chairman Kwang-hee Hong as the new promoter of KOIMA’s growth with his rich experience. The ceremony continued with a celebratory cake-cutting and a toast to the inauguration of the new chairman, followed by a dinner and performances for the guests who wished KOIMA well for its future development.
